General Instructions for Authors

Sustainable Communities Review is dedicated to the understanding and expansion of the concept and creation of sustainable communities in all parts of the world. The Review seeks to broaden the traditional focus of sustainable development to include other dimensions of community life that promote sustainability, such as empowerment, education, enterprise, and environment. Our definition of environment includes social and cultural influences as well as the more physical dimensions of our ecology. We welcome articles, commentaries, and news about ways to engage all citizens in sustaining quality community life and healthy environments to be submitted for consideration for publication. The Review is published semiannually.

The SCR accepts manuscripts for publication through a peer-review process. Peer reviewers selected for the SCR are required to meet at least minimum standards regarding their background in original research, publication records, training, familiarity with the content.

  1. Submission of manuscripts: Authors should send manuscripts to the Editor, Stanley R. Ingman, Ph.D. at stan.ingman@unt.edu. Manuscripts should include the following files: (a) cover letter file; (b) title page file that includes the authors’ names, affiliations (institutional and departmental), and addresses, email, fax, and phone numbers of the corresponding author; (c) main document file (Word or WordPerfect format [pc compatible], including the abstract, all text, references, footnotes, and appendixes); and (d) figures and tables, which should be submitted as separate files. Because an anonymous peer review system is employed, please ensure that manuscripts have been properly blinded; author names and affiliations, and acknowledgments should not appear anywhere in the main document file.

2.  Length of manuscripts: Scholarly articles should not exceed 10 double-spaced pages, but exceptions can be made if there is a reasonable justification. Shorter articles or essays describing innovative community projects and concepts, etc. should not exceed 4 double-spaced pages. The Review also welcomes brief notes on community activities (1 double-spaced page or less).

3.  Preparation of manuscripts: Manuscripts must be typed double-spaced on one side of 8 Y2 x 11" white paper, using at least 1" margins. Footnotes should not be used. Citations will be printed at the back of the Review in a section entitled References. Consult the Publications Manual of the American Psychological Association for correct forms for citations.

4.   Tables: Type tables on separate pages, double-spaced, and numbered consecutively with Arabic numbers and a brief title for each.

5.  Illustrations: Black and white photographs will be considered for publication. Send only photocopies and upon acceptance, originals must be submitted along with the signed permission of any persons photographed and a brief description of the photo. Label the photo with the title, date, and photographer's name.

6. Citation style: Follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Seventh Edition (2020). For more information about APA style, visit https://apastyle.apa.org/

7.  Other submissions and reproduction: Submission of an article to this journal implies that it has not been published in its submitted form in any other publication nor is it under consideration for publication in its submitted form elsewhere.

Please send any inquiries regarding journal policy and manuscript preparation/submission to the Editor: Stanley R. Ingman, Ph.D. at stan.ingman@unt.edu
